Ruma Rua have been learning about reflections for our maths, but we have been doing this through art!  We have started off by looking at 3 different reflections and making a list of all the things that these 3 pictures had in common.  This made us think very hard and we really had to look closely.  This is what we came up with...

• the reflection is darker than the top part of the picture
• the reflection is upside down
• there is a line between the ground and the water
• the reflection is a darker colour than the picture

We used this set of criteria to help us create some beautiful artworks.  They show that we have used the darker colour as the reflection, the reflection is upside down and that there is a line between the ground and the water.



They are on display in Ruma Rua so don't forget to come in and admire them.  We will be creating more art works to show our understanding of reflection.  Our end goal is to design and create a reflective piece of art to use as an invitation for our Grandparents day later in the term.

There was a beautiful monarch butterfly in our playground this morning. We watched it warming its wings on a swan plant and saw it fly high up into the sky and onto a basketball hoop.

We went back to Room 2 and wrote stories about the butterfly.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies from Room 11 visited us today to read picture books to us.

Discovery Time with Room 1

We joined in with Room 1 for some 'Discovery' Time today. 

Discovery is the perfect opportunity to excite children's curiosity, discover their strengths and stand back and observe how they work together as they choose from a range of activities and self-direct their own learning. 

We focused on the ‘Key Competencies’ of ‘managing self’ and ‘relating to others’ i.e. looking after equipment, sharing, taking turns, cleaning up when you have finished, trying something new, working with someone you don’t know… 

It was a great way to meet new friends and learn more about each other!

Our first day of school

Room 2 opened today with three students!  We've had a busy day exploring the school and our classroom, visiting the library to choose a class set of books, drawing, playing and learning routines.
